Greetings! My name is Joyce Emery and I have the supreme pleasure of being the Significant Support Needs teacher at Coronado Hills. I began my teaching journey when our youngest daughter, who has Down syndrome, started school. She was not able to tell me about her day so I decided to see it for myself, and became a substitute teacher. I developed a passion for bringing learning to life for students with differing abilities, which prompted me to pursue a career in education. I earned my Bachelor of Arts and Special Education certification, then, continued earning a Master of Arts in Teaching Linguistically Diverse and Learning and Teaching through Regis University. Still, my greatest learning comes from my students who challenge me to illuminate their abilities on a daily basis.
I am a wife, mother of four, lifelong learner, avid reader, animal lover, and passionate about family. When I am not at school, one will likely find me supporting our daughter in her Special Olympic endeavors, enjoying time and shared interests with all of our family, or with my nose in a book surrounded by dogs and cats.
