Greetings Cougar staff, students, and families!
I am new to Colorado, and new to Coronado Hills and Stellar Elementary Schools, where I split my time. I serve these schools in the role of digital literacy coach. What is a digital literacy coach? My job is to facilitate growth in digital literacy across all content areas. This is done in a variety of ways, so I will share a few examples. I partner with teachers to facilitate student growth in digital literacy. We might plan together to integrate a new digital tool or program into students' daily routines. We might look at an upcoming unit of study, and determine ways to embed technology skills or tools that will enhance student learning of the content. I support teachers as they strive to integrate appropriate instructional resources, particularly technology, to differentiate and personalize learning for students. And I promote professional conversations and reflective thinking to increase teacher effectiveness. My hope is to effect small shifts in thinking about learning, and demystify and remove some of the barriers we all have at times when it comes to technology. Technology and design thinking can not only help us work smarter, it can impact our ability to create and innovate!
My background includes 23 years as an elementary classroom teacher and 10 years as a district literacy teacher leader in Lincoln Public Schools in Lincoln, Nebraska. I "retired" from LPS in 2017. At that time, I had the opportunity to teach at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in the Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education (TLTE) program. I taught the literacy methods block to college juniors preparing to become elementary teachers. I also served as their practicum supervisor as they completed their literacy field experience two full days a week out in elementary schools. In May of this year, I resigned from my position to take the big step of relocating to this area. One of my daughters and her family, including three grandchildren, live nearby in Lafayette. I also have a daughter and son-in-law in San Jose, CA, and a 21-year-old son back in Lincoln, Nebraska.
I look forward to getting to know everyone here at Coronado Hills! Please feel free to connect with me anytime with questions, suggestions or ideas you may have!
Here's to the joy of learning! ¡Arriba con la alegria de aprender!
