WHAT'S HAPPENING IN MUSIC CLASS AND CHOIR?

Kindergarten:  Singing songs; playing and differentiating between the various melodic percussion instruments (glockenspiels, xylophones, metallophones); learning about locomotor and non-locomotor movement.  A "Kindergarten Progress Report" from the specials group (Art, Music, P.E.) should have arrived in January with information on what we've been doing and studying in those classes. We will soon begin working on songs for our Kindergarten Continuation ceremony, which is held on the last morning of school.

First Grade:  Playing melodic percussion instruments such as the glockenspiel, xylophone and metallophone)  Reviewing the mallet technique and knowing up an down the instruments. Playing various songs and singing at the same time.  Learning about and singing spirituals.

Second Grade:  Preparing for our BUG program which will happen on Thursday,  April 30 in the afternoon and the evening in the Coronado Gym.  Information will be forthcoming.  This program includes movement pieces which the choreographer from Ballet Nouveau will be teaching the children in the coming months.

Third Grade:  Preparing for a "Whether The Weather" production, which will be on  Tuesday, April 21 in the evening on the Coronado Stage.  This performance will include: singing, playing instruments such as xylophones and hand drums, creative movement, theatrical characters (the "weather forecaster"), and dance. A notice will be coming home before spring break which will have a section to fill in so that parents can volunteer.  I look forward to working with you!  It may be rather crowded so maybe just invite immediate family members, please.  Thanks

Fourth Grade: Two of the classes have been working on Cinquain Sound Settings (poetry to sound effects) with LANDFORMS as the subject. See the poetry up in the hallway just outside the music room.  A two day study of Beethoven is underway and  our Ukelele unit is coming up right after spring break.  We will work with the Ukeleles (and guitars) for a couple of weeks, which will basically take us up to the last week of school. If time, we will begin writing a new school song for our new school opening. Hoping to have fourth grade play some on the melodic percussion instruments and perform a song for the fifth grade continuation ceremony, as a way of saying "Good Luck and Good Bye.

Coronado Choir:  Choir is on Fridays and Mondays after school until 3:30.  We are working on songs for our Elementary Choir Festival, which takes place at Thornton Middle School on Thurday, April 23 at 7:00.  The theme is GO WEST!  More information about that after spring break.

Honor Choir:  Six 5th graders have been selected to represent Coronado Hills at the Second Annual Five Star Honor Choir Concert to be held on May 8 at Mountain Range High School which is at about Huron and 126th.  Almost all Adams Twelve Five Star Schools elementary schools will have children coming to this concert.
