Library Policies
Hours:
The Coronado Hills Library is open during student contact hours Monday through Friday and for one hour after school.
Checkout:
Students may check out library materials every day. We are a flexibly scheduled library and students do not have to wait for a specific day to visit. Books are checked out for a two-week period and magazines are checked out for a one-week. Kindergarten students may checkout one book at a time, first and second grade students may take two, and 3rd, 4th, and 5th may choose three books at one time for personal reading. We also check out additional books to upper grade students that they use for completing classroom assignments. You can even search our collection from the classroom and from home!
Late/Lost/Damaged Books:
We never charge a late fee for overdue books or materials. If the materials are needed for a longer time period, just stop by to renew! If you do have late books, no other materials can be checked out until overdue materials are returned. Overdue notices are sent home at the first of each month. If books become lost or damaged, students will be asked to pay the replacement costs for the items.
Special Events
Book Fairs:
We hold two book fairs each year in the library. The fairs are held during Parent/Teacher conferences in the Fall and Spring. This is our only fundraiser and 50% of the profits go toward buying new books for our library.
Build A Book:
In conjunction with the book fairs we have started hosting Build A Book events. This is a chance to work with your child to create a one of a kind book of their very own. In the process you will discover things you never knew about their interests and creativity!
Pizza Hut Book It!
Each month students are given calendars by their teachers. These calendars are used to record the amount of time they spend reading each day. If the students meet their reading goal for the month they will receive a free personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut.
Colorado Children's Book Award:
Books in consideration for this award are nominated and chosen by Colorado students. Two awards are given each year, one for picture books and one for chapter books. All students have had a chance to hear their teachers or the librarian read the picture books and read them themselves. Then the students vote for their favorites. The most frustrating part for me is that teachers and librarians are not allowed to vote!
Our top picture book votes went to Superhero ABC and Arnie the Doughnut came in second. Our top chapter book votes went to The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane and A Dog's Life came in second. The winners for the state were Arnie the Doughnut and A Dog's Life.
